Why not a top 2 instead of a top 3 in The Voice season 3 finals? Well, there are only two remaining The Voice 2012 judges still left in the running to win the ‘coaches’ competition this season, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green. Each of them only have two singers left. If two contestants got voted off The Voice tonight, only one coach might be left watching two of their team members go head to head in The Voice finals. The producers want to make sure there is a ‘winning coach’ moment as well as a winning contestant on The Voice season 3 finale, right? So there you go.

While The Voice 2012 coaches Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green are preparing their finalists for the big show next week, judges Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera will just have to sit on their hands and wait to find out who is The Voice season 3 winner. Personally, I’m not sad to see Christina Aguilera sitting on the sidelines at the end of the season because I think she made some seriously bad choices along the way–especially in not saving De’Borah from elimination when she could have. Bad move, Christina, bad move. As for poor, dear Adam Levine, he kind of ended up with a bit of an oddball mix this year and while he had a lot of talent, he just didn’t have a lot of singers with mass audience appeal.

After last night’s awesome cover of The Beatles‘ “Let It Be,” I’m really hoping America chooses to keep rocker Terry McDermott of Team Blake in the competition. If anyone deserves to stay just based on their performances on The Voice season 3 this week, it is most certainly him. Seriously, this is was simply delicious to watch and there wasn’t a dry eye in my house by the time he reached the end of the song.

Of the other three remaining singers left in the competition, my least favorite is Cassadee Pope (yes, go ahead and flame away). I am not a Cassadee hater, I just feel I have seen about a million copies of her already on stage over the years from karaoke bars to coffee houses to MTV videos. Yes, she’s attractive, she’s young and she can sing, but I just don’t feel anything moving when she opens her mouth and she just doesn’t seem to project anything special when she performs.

Of course, that is just my opinion and it is very likely Cassadee Pope could be the next winner of The Voice for all of the same reasons that I just don’t care for her. She has wide mass appeal with her good looks and accessible vocal style and I’m really more about the unique and quirky artist type like Nicholas David or the aging rocker with the heart of gold who probably won’t ever get another chance like this. Someone like Terry McDermott, for example. As for Trevin Hunte, I would be surprised if he is not the one who got voted off The Voice this week. However, I was shocked when Jermaine Paul won last year over Juliet Simms, so there is never any guarantee about who the public will pick as The Voice winner.

Who did the voters choose to make it to The Voice season 3 finals next week? Who got voted off The Voice and will have to go home right before the last battle? Our live The Voice results recap of the top 4 elimination show starts right here at 8PM ET!

RECAP: The show opens tonight with a brief review of the performances from the top 4 live show last night and commentary from the judges. Host Carson Daly takes a moment to discuss how iTunes is only one of the five ways of voting and it it really isn’t any more important than any other voting method, blah blah blah. I can only assume The Voice is trying to convince us that the producers are not conspiring to make sure the person with the most iTunes sales wins in hope of actually getting a future blockbuster winner this season.

Carson Daly says all the songs from last night were hits on iTunes, but the real truth is that Trevin Hunte wasn’t anywhere close to the other three on the iTunes chart.

First up to perform their duet on the show tonight are Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott with “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men. I have never heard of this band, but I’m actually liking this duet. I just knew Cassadee would end up singing with Terry because it was just the least awkward pairing for her and (conspiracy theories aside), you know the producers want her to look good because the so important 18 to 24 male viewers think she’s hot.

Next up we have a guest performance from one of my favorite performers on The Voice 2012 season 2, Juliet Simms. She takes the stage with her song “Wild Child”. Sadly, Juliet Simms seems to have gone nutsy as the song is not good and the stage production and outfit are way weird. Not happy about seeing one of my previous favorites turned into this… whatever this is.

Now it is time to learn the first singer who will be safe on The Voice results show tonight. The voters have spoken and the first person who will be going to The Voice season 3 finals is…

Terry McDermott!

I have to say I am very pleased about this choice from the voters. After last night’s terrific performance of “Let It Be,” he really deserved to move on to the finals.

Up on stage with the second duet from the contestants for the night is Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte. Unlike the previous pairing of Terry McDermott and Cassadee Pope, this one is just weird. Although I really dig Nicholas, I’m kind of glad when it is over.

Another guest performance comes next, this time from former The Voice 2012 season 2 country girl RaeLynn of her song “Boyfriend” all about boyfriend theft. I’m still not a country music fan of any kind, but I can’t help liking this chick.

Then we have a bit of The Voice confessionals about who would want to be stranded on a desert island with whom. Boy, they really do stretch to fill time on these results shows don’t they?

You’d think we might find out the next person who is safe tonight after this, but no. Instead, we have another guest performance from a previous The Voice season 2 contestant. So now we have to sit through Chris Mann peforming his single “Roads” before we get more results.

Finally we have the name of the second finalist who is safe tonight and it is…

Cassadee Pope!

No surprise on that one at all. If she had been eliminated, that would have been a huge shock. I think we can pretty much call it for Team Blake to win this year. I prefer either Nicholas or Terry over Cassadee Pope, but I just don’t really see either of them beating her in the finals.

Tony Lucca from last season reveals he has been signed to Adam Levine’s record company. That is very cool and maybe will give some hope to some great singers who were previously eliminated this season.

Now we have another duet and it is Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte performing “Hero” by Mariah Carey. Again, it is kind of weird to watch the two of them sing together. It just doesn’t quite work.

At last it is time for the final results! The last person who will be moving on to The Voice 2012 season 3 finals, voted on by America, is…

Nicholas David!

Trevin Hunte of Team Cee Lo has been eliminated from the competition.

Here are The Voice season 3 top 3 results:

  • Terry McDermott
  • Cassadee Pope
  • Nicholas David
